Atlanta Jazz Festival promotes learning, exercise and fun in the Publix KidZone!

“We are happy to provide a wonderful, safe place for kids to play and learn at the Atlanta Jazz Festival,” states Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. “Many of our jazz lovers have children and they want to bring them to the festival in Piedmont Park over Memorial Day Weekend – May 27-29. The Publix KidZone is the perfect place for families to share time together. This year we are featuring The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club and the Dragon Goal Soccer Experience.”

AJF 2014 - FacepaintingHours for the Publix KidZone are as follows: Friday, May 27 from 6-8 pm; Saturday, May 28 from 11 am-7 pm and Sunday, May 29 from 11 am to 7 pm. Activities also include face painting, balloon twisting and jump roping. The Atlanta Jazz Festival and the Publix KidZone are free and open to the public.

The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club will participate this year with special interactive book reading sessions on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 pm. Each child from birth to eight years old attending the book reading events will be given the gift of a book.

The program promotes literacy skills and vocabulary enrichment for children and their families. This year’s theme is “resilience and family storytelling.” The hope is that through these reading activities children will ask the adults in their lives for personal stories, and it will inspire adults to share their experiences with their children.

The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is a collaboration between the City of Atlanta, the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS), PNC Bank, the United Way of Greater Atlanta and other partnerships across the city.
