Like most artistic expressions on our continent, Latin American music is rooted in the rhythms brought to the region by the African people enslaved there. Drawing from the languages and cultures of some of the countries that colonized the continent (Portugal and Spain) as well as from its U.S.-born cousin, Jazz in Latin America has evolved rapidly over the years, both exporting and importing influences and musicians into the greater jazz world. In Miguel Zenón workshop, participants will look at and better understand the history and music of jazz in Latin America.
